Zeta has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, but is expected to weaken to a tropical storm before making landfall. However, forecasters say the storm could make landfall anywhere from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle and are encouraging preparation for the storm.
This year’s season has so many storms that the hurricane center has turned to the Greek alphabet after running out of assigned names. However, Zeta was expected to move over the Yucatan Peninsula late Monday before heading into the Gulf of Mexico and then approach the U.S. Gulf Coast by Wednesday, though it could weaken by then.
Yesterday, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis urged Panhandle residents to prepare immediately. Have a question or need advice? Visit our Hurricane Help Center here.
