Rumors abound about federal funding for Hurricane Michael victims

Feb 27, 2019

Many Bay County residents have been discussing the possibility of having Hurricane Michael upgraded from a Category four to a Category five, thinking they might be entitled to additional FEMA benefits and possibly better insurance payouts.

But instead, a spokesperson from the Florida CFO’s office clarified the confusion for Hurricane Michael victims, explaining that federal benefits are based on several factors including damage estimates, meteorological statistics, storm serge levels, and other information.

Panhandle insurance attorneys at Insurance Litigation Group have boots on the street and are actively meeting Panama City Beach-area homeowners and businesses to review their policies and damage to assist in recovering the maximum insurance benefits to help ensure there are adequate funds to pay for repairs and rebuilding.
