As Phase 2 of Hurricane Season approaches, National Hurricane Center forecasters have begun recognizing new systems that may arise. Meteorologists say that August usually brings more active systems within the Atlantic tropics, and that is exactly what is occurring this year as well.
During this time of year, east African waves move off the coast approximately every three to five days. When formed, they send storms that are referred to as the African Easterly Jet.
The Climate Prediction Center states that the hurricane-destroying climate pattern El Nino will be neutral by the end of the summer season, while the Atlantic basin will still be within hurricane season. However, experts are hopeful that this storm season will be somewhat normal considering the lack of strength of El Nino so far this year.
While it has been a neutral, average storm season so far, that does not mean that a large or dangerous storm could not form- people should make sure to be prepared for any type of storm that may arise.
