On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Nicole hit Florida as a rare November storm, pounding the state with heavy rain, damaging winds and storm surge. While Nicole was not as strong as Ian, it made an unusual landfall as a late-season storm packing sustained winds between 74-95 mph. The Category 1 storm entered south of Vero Beach and swept across the state through Winter Haven, Tallahassee, and surrounding areas.
Intensifying just before making landfall, the storm snapped trees and destroyed power lines and poles that resulted in major power outages leaving tens of thousands without power late Thursday. Post-storm, homeowners are reporting damage to roofs, shingles, vinyl sidings, windows and gutters on well-built homes.
If you have Hurricane Nicole damage, your first instinct might be to toss everything to the garbage but…it is essential that you do NOT throw out your damaged belongings until you document it first.
As soon as a loss occurs, you should consider contacting your insurance company. As there are claims processes to follow, usually the sooner you can initiate a claim, the earlier you may be able to resolve the issue.

Using the wrong terminology can come back to haunt you… That’s why it’s important to have property claim experts like the ones at Insurance Litigation Group on your side to guide you through the process.
