When an insured experiences damage to their property, they file an insurance claim to receive reimbursement for the losses they’ve incurred. However, insurance policies differ in the type of coverage they provide and the conditions under which they pay out claims.
Here are a few of the different property claim policies:
Homeowner’s Insurance Policy: A homeowner’s insurance policy provides coverage for losses to an individual’s home and personal property. This policy typically covers damage caused by weather events such as wind, hail, or lightning, as well as theft or vandalism. Homeowner’s insurance policies also include liability coverage, which protects the homeowner if someone is injured on the property.
Renter’s Insurance Policy: A renter’s insurance policy provides coverage for losses to an individual’s personal property. This policy typically covers damage caused by weather events such as wind, hail, or lightning, as well as theft or vandalism. Renter’s insurance policies also include liability coverage, which protects the renter if someone is injured in their rental property. Keep in mind, if you are renting, you do not have homeowner’s insurance. Only the person or company that owns the home can buy homeowners insurance.
Condo Insurance Policy: A condo insurance policy provides coverage for losses to an individual’s personal property and the interior of their unit. This policy typically covers damage caused by weather events such as wind, hail, or lightning, as well as theft or vandalism. Condo insurance policies also include liability coverage, which protects the owner if someone is injured in their condo unit.
Flood Insurance Policy: A flood insurance policy provides coverage for losses related to flooding. This policy typically covers damage caused by rising water from a natural source such as a river, lake, or ocean. Flood insurance policies are not included in standard homeowners, renters, or condo insurance policies and must be purchased separately.
