Hurricane Michael: $1 Billion for Community Recovery Funds

Mar 9, 2020

It’s been almost a year and a half since Hurricane Michael took its toll on Florida’s Panhandle, and unfortunately, communities are still dealing with its effects- however, there has been some recent good news for those affected residents. Governor Ron DeSantis announced that there would be $1 billion in aid that will go towards helping the communities that are still impacted by Hurricane Michael.

Hurricane Michael left $25 billion worth of damage, and while over 100,000 insurance claims have been closed, there are still 16,000 remaining. FEMA has paid $2 billion towards Hurricane Michael victims in federal funds, while the DEO is proposing $735 million to assist with home and commercial property repairs.

The $1 billion that has been granted to assist Hurricane Michael victims will be a huge help not only in repairing, but creating stronger, more resilient homes and properties.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is to review a state action plan that will determine how and where the funds will be used.

Unfortunately, disasters such as Hurricane Michael are an inevitable part of life. Luckily, our team here at ILG can help. To ensure that you are prepared for anything that life may throw your way, make sure to contact us today.
