A recent Sun-Sentinel article by insurance writer Ron Hurtibise illustrates the unprecedented actions of Florida home insurance company People’s Trust filing 241 lawsuits since July 1, 2017 against its insureds.
Why did People’s Trust file these Florida home insurance lawsuits? Because some People’s Trust policy holders refused to let the company send its affiliated repair contractor – called the “Rapid Response Team”– into their homes to make repairs, as had been agreed to in their insurance contract. Instead, these customers who are not interested in accepting subpar repairs or who prefer to use their own repair companies, hired attorneys and public adjusters to seek monetary payouts to repair the damage to their homes.
